Owen practise for the first time in 18 years!

Owen are back with a vengeance! First band practice in 18 years, way too long. Awesome three hour jam and we did three songs, Slacker Anthem, Smalltown, and Chainsaw! So cool to play music with these very talented guys after all this time, we are back on track MF!

Owen play Chainsaw!

Tom in his element!

For the record, here is how OWEN like to start the day on tour!

'Par for the Course' was issued as a digital single on August 18th 2014, and is now
Owen's second best selling single on the Internet, next to 'Slacker Anthem.'

Owen's newest CD 'Choose Life' is getting some negative feedback as folks
continue to get us mixed up with Chicago's solo act, Owen. Here is a short
review and response on Amazon.com

Rob and Tom jam after 19 years!

Rob Hoyland is back!

On September 12th 2014 Tom Ryerson & Rob Hoyland jammed together after an absence of over 19 years. Rob and Tom went their separate ways in December 1994 after playing in two bands together, 'Euphoria' in 1992 and 'Saint Judy' in 1994. Tom visited Rob at his home in Brantford today and listened to many of his original songs, especially his great original 'Blue Marble.' They also jammed out 'Slacker Anthem,' which sounded fantastic. With the addition of Rob on lead guitar, Stan Antone moves to bass, and Steve Wright remains on the drums. Owen will return, mightier than ever!

There will be live shows and you will know!

Owen receives great 'Indiegogo' coverage in Woodstock paper

The Indiegogo Campaign is on!
The article below was published in the Woodstock Sentinel-Review on Tuesday Aug 26th.

A big thank you to Justin Ford!
And we are looking for a bass player to join us in the video and a couple of gigs as well!

Slacker Anthem will soon have a professional video on YouTube!

Owen want to go viral on YouTube and we need your help big time! We have begun a Indiegogo campaign  in order to raise $3,000 to shoot a professionally directed and edited music video for our hit, 'Slacker Anthem.' The song will feature all four current members of Owen, their family, friends and pets, and up to fifteen lucky Indiegogo contributors as well.

Contributors to the Indiegogo campaign will earn perks for their hard earned dollars! We don’t mind giving just a little bit! From MP3’s of the new CD, to vinyl records in white sleeves and also cardboard sleeves with lyrics; and a much coveted spot in the video.

The Indiegogo campaign closes on September 18th, and whatever we have raised at that point will be used for the video which will be released in October/November 2014. The video will be shot by RedCat Films of London, ON. Any excess will be invested in band equipment and a second video.

We hope have a Video release party in Woodstock in October/November 2014 with a live set of music performed by the almighty Owen! Ody’s is our choice place to play live. These are indeed exciting times in which we live!

Stay tuned!

Owen In The City - Comic Strip by Molly Kiely 1995-96

Owen In The City was a Comic Strip written by Molly Kiely (of Palo Alto, CA) for the Owen Bandzine "This Is Owen & Friends," which saw a thousand issues published in February 1996 and June 1996. There was a planned issue for October 1996, but it never transpired. (as the band went on a eighteen year hiatus) Molly drew panels for all three issues, but only the two were actually used, so that last three have never been seen before! I present to you, dear reader, the complete Owen Comic Set by skilled artist, comic, and illustrator, Molly Kiely. The sets were drawn in the fall of 1995 and spring 1996.

Brand New Developments

Owen's Debut CD - April 22nd 2014

Finally the debut CD by Owen is out, and it only took 20 years! With the exception of the studio recording of ‘Slacker Anthem’, these tracks have never been released before. (Even Slacker Anthem is different; we featured the extended DAT version here!)

For 17 of these songs, this is their debut. Slacker Anthem has been available on i-Tunes since April 4th 2011, and has been racking up lots of streams, now if we could just generate those into actual sales! (We’re on i-Tunes) The song ‘Has to be’ not only makes its debut here, but we offer three versions. (no apologies as Joe Jackson would say). Track 1 is the studio version with a drum machine, but I think this is my best vocal. Track 6 is the demo version, and track 18 is the final version, which I hated and is the reason the song has never been issued till now.

Owen has two lives; me & Jeremy Chambers (1994-1995) and then me & the full band (Doug Hainer, Andrew Hainer and Steve Wright), 1995-1996. I wish Jeremy and I had been able to record more, he is a great songwriter as the demos on tracks 6 to 13 show. I also had an awesome time at CKMS in Waterloo with the beautiful and talented Celine, which is where we draw tracks 3 to 5. Thanks to Bob Brown for his help with ‘Slacker Anthem’ and ‘Has to be’, I just wish I had more confidence back then. By May 1996 I had that confidence I needed, as the 4 tracks drawn from Owen’s show at Lee’s Palace in Toronto will attest to.

Later, I had such confidence I laughed when Tyson from the Embassy in London suggested we open for Scratching Post. We were the mighty Owen, we weren’t opening for any shitty London band! But, by rejecting that offer, we screwed ourselves in the Forest City. Just another lousy decision of mine!

At any rate, I’m proud to offer you the discerning music buying public these 18 tracks from my past, may they also be my future. (I still wanna rock and roll!)

About the CD cover; you may or may not know that most of my CD covers feature photographs that I myself have snapped. This cover is no exception. The photo is question was taken on July 26 1986 at a family gathering in London. Left to right is my 1st cousin Sherri Dixon, 2nd cousins Heather & Janet Laursen, 2nd cousins Kelly and Kim Laursen, and my sister Lisa Ryerson. The little Owen guy in the center of the photo was created by my daughter Jeanette in 1994. Thanks for reading!
The next Owen CD is planned to be called ‘Back Tracks’ and will feature music from various projects 1990 – 1993 as well as Owen demo’s from the fall of 1994 featuring Adam Arsenault, Stan Antone and Robb Hoyland, and I hope to feature the then-planned single, ‘Rock Star.’

Please visit the Owen blog at http://this-is-owen.blogspot.ca/ and look for all of our music at i-Tunes, Amazon, and of course CD Baby!
